Lights, camera and action! In Bollywood, the action is very important. A Bollywood hero needs to know not only how to act, but also to dance and fight. The kicks and the punches attract the attention of the audience and some leave a mark long after the film's release. We take a look at some of the most memorable action scenes in Bollywood.

Deewar: Vijay (Amitabh) nonchalantly sits in a godown with his legs up, smoking a beedi. The goons are looking for him. Then comes the famous dialogue, "Peter... tum log mujhe dhoond rehe ho, aur mein tumhara yahan intezaar kar raha hoon." He then locks the door and holding the keys says, "Ise apni jeb mein rakh le Peter. Ab ye tala mein teri jeb se nikal ke hi khoolonga." In his one versus seven fight, the hero (as usual) manages to defeat the villains and emerges victorious. Not so much for the action, it is the style that makes this sequence from Deewar so etched in the film lover's mind.

Gadar - Ek Prem Katha: How can anyone ever forget Sunny Deol uprooting a tube-well with his 'dhai-kilo ke haath' to fight off the Pakistanis. Not all heroes can carry off such a scene, but this was Sunny Deol. And the film went on to become one of the biggest hits of Hindi cinema.

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi: The USP of this film was the fight between Akshay Kumar and the WWE (then WWF) star The Undertaker. Much had been said about Akshay injuring himself when he lifted The Undertaker in the climax scene, but to the viewers that particular act didn't seem too convincing. But the action nevertheless was exciting and Akshay's martial arts abilities were on full display. Also memorable was the hot song 'In the Night No Control' featuring Akshay and Rekha, but then, it is action of a different kind. And not to forget The Undertaker's two-word dialogue, "Mujhse panga!"

Ghulam: Siddharth Marathe (Aamir Khan) challenges Ronak Singh aka Ronnie (Sharat Saxena) in the climax. That Ronnie is twice the size of Siddharth makes the fight even more interesting. Since the film had a boxing angle, the long fight (around 12 minutes) was mostly punches and more punches. Ronak beats Siddharth to a pulp, but in the real Hindi film style the hero had the last punch.

Sholay: How can there ever be a list of Bollywood action without the mention of Sholay? The film was full of stylish action and that makes it difficult to choose one sequence. So we went for the first, the opening scene where Jai (Amitabh), Veeru (Dharmendra) and Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) collectively fight off Gabbar's dakus trying to loot the train they were on.

Shiva: The maverick director Ram Gopal Varma announced his arrival with Shiva in 1989. The bicycle chain fight between Shiva (Nagarjuna) and Chakravarthy, inspired many youngsters to put alternative use for the chains that make their bicycle wheels go round. The camera work gave the action a real-life feel.

Coolie: This scene features on this list because superstar Amitabh Bachchan was seriously injured while filming it. Puneet Issar (best known for his role of Duryodhan in the TV series Mahabharat) accidentally punched Big B too hard. The entire country prayed for Amitabh's recovery and director Manmohan Desai altered the ending.
