 The year 2008 would be long remembered as a watershed year in the history of United States of America. The verdict of 2008 presidential elections further cemented the roots of American democracy and blew a wind of 'change'.  Pakistan's tryst with democracy has been really tumultuous. Its democratic stretch has been mostly short-lived and frequently punctured by the military's intermittent coups.  The year 2008 was remarkable for Nepal as elections ushered in a new chapter in the country’s history, bringing an end to a long-running campaign by Maoist insurgents who went on to dominate the new parliament.  The conflict between Israel and Palestine is almost six decades old and still there is no hope of a possible solution to this vexed issue.  Ever since end of Cold War and the demise of former Soviet Union, we have witnessed the unchallenged power of United States of America on the world stage.  Piracy in the Gulf of Aden is nothing new, but the problem aggravated in year 2008.  Thailand has been an agriculture based economy till it embraced free market economy in 1980s. During the 1980s it witnessed economic boom, and the agriculture-based economy changed as Thais moved to work in industry and the services sector.  2008 was a year that saw the Web changing lives the world over.
In world politics, history was rewritten when Barack Obama was elected as the next US President. Nobody thought that Barack Obama, an Afro-American, could pull it off.
