I had been back from Nagaland for over a month and from the minute I landed it had been all about stories from this far away land- real unreal, folklore and myths, believable unbelievable ( honest and exaggerated).
Trivia
1. The Angamis and Konyaks wear rings of cane on their legs which are not merely ornamental but also help in climbing.
2. All Naga tribes use hair for decoration. Earlier human hair was much sought after but now goat's hair is used.
3. A girl becomes a full fledged member of the community only after she is tattooed.
4. The Nagas on the war-path carried two spears each. It was an effective weapon upto a range of thirty yards.
5. Among the Angamis, after a young man fixes his choice on a certain girl for marriage, the bridegroom's father tests the match by strangling a fowl and watching the way in which it crosses its legs when dying. If the legs are placed in an inauspicious attitude, the match is immediately broken off.
6.Dreams are of paramount importance for the Nagas. If a girl chosen for marriage dreams about something inauspicious within three days, the marriage is called off.
7. Interestingly, among the Semas, the daughter gets a dowry! The girl's father also gives ornaments to the bride but this is much less than the dowry received. The price of a girl also depends upon her accomplishments, an educated girl will fetch a higher dowry.
The above trivia is based on facts from the past traditions. Many Nagas do not follow these customs anymore.

This is a very good step to bring in the NE to the fold of india. I would say that you hold on more programs of the cluture in northeast so that the ordinary indians are aware of the same. I turely appreciate ur efforts and i hope you continue to do the good workd

darkavenger_811@yahoo.co.in :

Girls of North-east are better in every aspect. This coming from a guy would be hard to digest but here in Northeast girls are treated equally not like the rest of the country. You have been to NAgaland only.Try going to Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya its all the same and in every field. When will the rest of India appreciate women. GUess thatz y Northeast is so very different from rest of India. It has at least its core essentials in place not like UP or Bihar where they kill the girl child.Ridiculous ppl.
