ALL ABOUT MY CAR, HONEY
Some cars are like aspirations. You tell yourself “When I grow up and have pots of money, I'll own this car.” The Ferrari is one such boyhood dream. A lucky few own it and live it. Some never do and go pea-green if you mention it. For most it's like unrequited love. Then there are those who may not own a steering wheel but when a Ferrari zips past like a mirage, their day is made!
If such is the Ferrari-effect can you imagine the pleasure of owning one? It is no exaggeration that when you do, life becomes larger than life. You become a purveyor of dreams. hi, you can even start a daily blog on your car-experiences! Ask any Ferrari owner, and he'll tell you what it feels like to turn heads, to watch people gasp in awe or break into a smile.
So we distilled a car-fact: Experiencing a Ferrari is an experience in itself. To learn more about this extraordinary machine our search took us to a certain Dhruv Sharma. An avid car enthusiast, Dhruv is also a proud owner of a 1979 Ferrari. It's luscious red colour makes it particularly attractive. Although made a couple of decades ago, it can still give some of the modern cars a run for their money.
Says Dhruv, “I'm the third generation in it now. This car was bought by my father. It's just basically a family passion throughout.” And as he will tell you this car has travelled far and wide before landing up in his garage four years back. He lets on, “This car came to India in the late 70s and then it was shipped off to Colombo for about four-five years. Then it came back in 1984.”
A collector's item, this 4.4 litre, B-12 turbo-charged engine beast was a hit all over Europe. The interiors were always plush and the car's slick design made it stand out. There were always smart, well defined curves and straight lines which accentuated its appeal.
So if you happen to catch Dhruv tripping along in his red Ferrari on a road littered with facsimile cars, say “hello and thank-you” for a traffic-stopping moment! That being said let's just watch and enjoy. Happy driving, man.
