All About Heavy Petting
DID YOU KNOW?
It is a myth that dogs are color blind. They can actually see in colour, just not as vividly as humans. It is akin to our vision at dusk.
Dogs DO have better low-light vision than humans because of a special light-reflecting layer behind their retinas.
If never spayed or neutered, a female dog, her mate, and their puppies could product over 66,000 dogs in 6 years!
Dogs' only sweat glands are between their paw pads.
A dog's mouth exerts 150-200 pounds of pressure per square inch, with some dogs exerting up to 450 pounds per squre inch.
A one year old dog is as mature, physically, as a 15 year old human.

The U.S. has the highest dog population in the world, France has the 2nd highest.
Dog's nose prints are as unique as a human's finger prints and can be used to accurately identify them
Dogs have no sense of "time".
Humans have kept dogs as pets for over 12,000 years.
A dog's smell is more than 100,000 times stronger than that of a human's.

Dear Heavy Petting Team
my dog's name is whisky he is 5 and a half to 6 months
my brother picked him up from a street else he would have been crushed by cars or trucks.
he is our family member. He is naughty, lovable, active and healthy. He is absolutely fine with people, has never ever bitten or attacked anyone, but he becomes very excited and a little aggressive at times.we need to give him a suitable house where he is treated really well just as a family member .He is a non-vegetarian dog and enjoys his chicken very much.We really would like to give him to someone who is an animal lover, who will be able to understand whisky's character and make him a happy dog.
he loves playing and mostly when he is tired he loves to sleep.he has a bed of his own. we searching a home for whisky just because we are shifting to pune and we cannot take him with us. it is even because my brother hits him alot and i really feel very sad for him tht is why i am searching a home for him.

Dear Heavy Petting Team
We got Jaamu 2 years ago. He was 1 months old. My husband picked him up on Highway, else he would have been crushed by trucks.
We live in Delhi and will go out of India soon. For legal reasons we’re not allowed to take our dog along. We really would like to give him to someone who is an animal lover, who will be able to understand Jaamu’s character and make him a happy dog.
He is our family member. He is a non-vegetarian dog and enjoys his chicken very much. He is naughty, lovable, active and healthy. Jaamu likes to run around and to play tag games. Our balcony is his favourite place at home. He likes to bathe in summer. He is absolutely fine with people, has never ever bitten or attacked anyone, but he becomes very excited and a little aggressive towards strange dogs. He is ok with puppies and grown up dogs, if introduced properly.
Health stats: vaccinated, neutered.

ResQ Charitable Trust
Staveley Road Re-Homing Project
What’s Been Happening to Dr. Zarine Patel’s Dogs?
On 26 March 2011, Dr. Zareen Patel passed away leaving behind 135 dogs, most of them stray, some pure-bred at her ancestral home on Stavley Rd, in Camp, Pune. Dr. Patel had assigned 4 care-takers to look after the animals. However her untimely death left no more funds to look after the animals. Since the 30th of March, 2011, ResQ Charitable Trust has been entrusted with the task of looking after and re-homing the animals.
How do the numbers stand? Well we have had 54 adoptions so far. That leaves us with just over 100 dogs left as our original estimation of 135 was off by about 20!
We are coping with the rains so far by making temporary shelters and placing old beds and tables so that the dogs have a dry place to sleep. We are using old sheets, blankets and gunny bags to keep them warm. Since the rains started we have been treating a few fevers and belly bugs. We remain vigilant, as a gastro bug could spread very quickly in a place like Staveley Road and these bugs can be fatal.
We had our first adoption event! We ran a small adoption fair in High Spirits Cafe in Koregaon Park. Eight dogs found new homes and lots of people came to find out what it was all about.
We have teamed up with Ishanya to continue our adoption and awareness campaign and we will have a presence in the Flea Market each Sunday! We have also started printing leaflets for distribution throughout the city.
We have re-launched the Heads Up For Tails campaign, we are targeting restaurants in Koregaon Park first and then plan to spread to other areas. Its a simple concept, 10 rupees is automatically added each restaurant bill as a donation to ResQ, the diner can opt out of the donation by simply asking the waiter to remove it!
So what do we need now? Most of all, we need to get these dogs a new place to stay! Any farmhouse, factory, bungalow or yard can be home to some dogs. I don’t have space like that, what can I do?
• Everybody knows somebody, so start asking around for spaces!
• We need people in all areas of the city to distribute our leaflets and posters!
• Own a restaurant? Take part in our Heads Up For Tails campaign!
• Donate old sheets, blankets and gunny bags to ResQ!
