My Fitness Diary
Posted By: Imran Khan
I tend to wake up quite early, I'm a morning person. I wake up without an alarm clock or anything, generally by 7.00-7.30 am. I like to read the papers, have breakfast. I don't drink tea or coffee. Breakfast will usually be omelette's and toast and milk.
My gym timings vary. It really depends on the day. I prefer to work out in the evenings. But a lot of days you don't have time in the evenings, so I tend to workout in the mornings. After that the day really begins...
Some days it is shooting, some days you have to dub, some days you have interviews, promotions and publicity, there's no guarantee of what the day is going to be like.
I started off studying in Bombay and when I was 10-years-old, I left for a boarding school in south India. So most of my life, I've spent in the south, in Ooty and Bangalore after which I went to Film School – New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.
I studied to be a director, worked there for a while then came back...now here I am. I had never wanted to be an actor. Acting was never a plan for me. I would say the only reason I thought of acting was because I met Abbas and liked the script so much.
Aamir has inspired me a great deal personally and professionally. Everything he does, he does with a great measure of belief, conviction and integrity. He leaves nothing to chance and he doesn't do anything by half measure.
I've seen the kind of respect people have for him, anyone who has worked with him will tell you this. And I do really aspire to be like that.
The name of a producer does carry a lot of weight. As a person and production house, Aamir Khan Productions do carry a tremendous amount of goodwill with the audience.
People do feel inherently if Aamir is associated with the project it will be good. It will be a quality film and a successful film. But that is only the pre-release hype and expectations. Beyond that ultimately the film does have to speak for itself.
If people don't like the film, just Aamir's name can't save it. And if people like it, it is because of the content and the film itself. So it all depends on before and after the release.
Now for my work out...most people start with cardio. I don't do cardio as I'm very thin to begin with and if I do too much cardio, I'll lose even more weight. So my warm up just happens with my walk to the gym.
When I have the time, I work out five days a week, sometimes six days. I focus on one body part a day. So one day, I'll do the chest, one day I'll do back, another day arms. I combine biceps and triceps. And another day I'll do shoulders and legs.
Most of it is designed by my trainer Pawan. I do really leave it all up to him.
I think it is a universal thing, no one likes to do legs. But you have to do it. My trainer is real good about it. He forces me, “No, you have to do it once a week.” I know it's for my own good. I also hate shoulders!
