The sun shines on me bro!

Posted By: Zayed Khan (VANITY NO APOLOGIES!)

When I was born, I was taken to the mosque, the church and the temple. A lot of fire crackers were burst and I'm told the same didn't happen for my sisters!

My earliest childhood memory is of my dad shooting..there'd be two cameras and 140 people watching..just watching! And I'd be wondering, don't they have work, don't they have some place to go!!

But then that was the magic of cinema, the silver screen, the lights..camera..the dazzle..the glitter and glamour.

I was a huge Superman fan as a kid. It was also the time, my dad's film Abdullah released. So I'd look at him and think of him as this hero with a gun!

All I wanted to do then was dress up like the superheros. I'd bully my dad to get me these Superman and Batman costumes or I'd dress up like a dacoit.
Then I'd get all the workers in my house to play the villains. I would tell them to hide and would catch them and be the hero of the day!

Childhood was just wonderful. It's something I don't mind going back to. I had a Christian aaya called Caroline Fernandes, who was like a second mother. We also had this cook who was a full on Pathan guy.

I had a way with people. I was a very charming boy, very pampered as I was the only boy among my three sisters. It was chaos man!!

The first time I set foot on my own set, it was a feeling like no other. It was like the first time you ride a bicycle and you have butterflies in your stomach.

You just can't explain the excitement. It was euphoric..there was nothing that intimidated me or made me feel insecure, I just had it in me to deal with all these things...

Ask me about my style and let me tell you I'm pretty moody about clothes! I'm very moody about what I want to wear on any given day.

It can be anything, from being formal and all dressed up to a really sleek suit to being grungy and very street.
There are days, when I like to be very suave and wear a Shadab Durazi or an Armani suit or a Dolce & Gabbana.

If I had to make a style statement, I would say - “Wear the clothes. The clothes shouldn't wear you!” Really out there things and really radical things tend to make a statement.

I have a fetish for sunglasses and shoes. I am a big fan of Bono, the lead singer of U2.
I remember when he first came out with these fly glasses that he wore in one of his albums, I was like wow man these are the coolest pair I've ever seen!

I went on a rampage looking for those very glasses all over the world. I think that's when my fascination for glasses began.
I used to wear shades night and day! People would come up and say, “You know it's very sunny today isn’t it?” And I'd go, “Man the sun always shines on me bro!”

Another thing I really like is watches. I mean what does a man have after all? What do you gift a man? A tie, a watch, shirt, sunglasses..there are very few things that we can really buy for ourselves as compared to a woman.

As an actor fitness is a part of my curriculum. I run an hour a day, I work on two body parts and I do 20 minutes of kicking.

On my 'Me Day', I just sleep, something I love to do. I love my home. People say let’s go to Goa for the weekend..I find it very taxing.
Honestly, for me the greatest escape is Home as that's where you become normal you wear your dirtiest shorts, you play with your dogs...

I and my wife Malaika, we don't make a big deal about being man and wife! I mean...“Why aren't you doing this and why don't you do that..” There's no nagging.

There is a great understanding and compatibility. She cuts my nails and I paint hers. Just timepass, chatting, playing cards, doing all these things..
So who is Zayed Khan? Zayed Khan is complicated you can never figure that one out!
