Delhi Couture Week - Day 2

Posted By: Ambika Anand

Day Two of the Delhi Couture Week started with a show by designer duo - Ashima and Leena. These real life sisters-in-law and business partners have been designing for over 15 years.

Today their show had a musical beginning with Sufi Singer Zila Khan who provided soulful music for the entire show that had a dramatic end with Sharmila Tagore walking the runway. The accessories were worn by the models on the hair and it seemed like an interesting way to carry off jewellery! On the runway the clothes were mainly in net and velvet. The combination of simple sarees in muted colors with rich velvet blouses in deep red and blue seemed like a classy combination. They also provided backless options for the brave girl gifted with a great body!

The second show was at the Kila, a property on the famous One Style Mile on MG Road in New Delhi.

The pre-show cocktails were at Blue Frog and the joint show of Gaurav Gupta and Anamika Khanna happened at the next door Evoluzine.

The magic on the runway started with Anamika Khanna's creations. Anamika Khanna is based out of Kolkatta. Famous for her textile R n D , she is also renowned for her celebrity fan following that includes Sonam Kappor who was there to witness the show. The clothes and the workmanship on this collection can be described in one word - exquisite.

One saw many new silhouettes, the list is endless:

1. Capes with a kurta and dhoti pants

2. A pre-stitched sari coupled with dhoti trousers or pencil pants

3. Dhoti pants with a bandgala jacket accompanied with a cape like dupatta

4. Cape marries a kaftan

As soon as our drinks got rebooted Gaurav Gupta show began.

An alumnus of Central Saint Martin’s College, London, Gaurav works very closely with lines and the motion of fabric. Embroideries in three dimensions, volume play and extempore draping have created a signature look. The show had a lot of wearable dresses, gowns, pre-stitched saris and mermaid cut lehengas. The color palette was yummy with a mix of grays, whites, fuchsia, bright orange, tangerine and fluorescent pick.

With the entire setting being warm and intimate and the well thought out music, the show was impeccable!
