Gig At North Campus

Posted By: Chirojit Bhattacharya

So this is the deal most ' kids ' think it's uber cool to head to the momo joints, as soon as they enter the hallowed by lanes of North Campus. And the first whiff of music that they wish to hear is the Rock and Roll. Never mind the fact they would have never heard of Iron Maiden and grew up listening to the Backstreet Boys, that is the closest to a guitar toned riff they have ever gone. But once you are in college it's absolutely essential to hit the college grounds for a Parikrama gig.

Pretty much the same thing last Sunday, when the new-age cool crowd thronged a known watering hole in the heart of Lutyens Delhi. DV8 from the topic ... Parikrama for their part looked to sort of fine tune for the upcoming download festival. As my rather old-school frame of mind wandered to the newbies wearing the black of Pantera while paying tribute to the green enticements of Mary Jane. You get the feeling you have arrived, same could be said about Chintan just that he thought he arrived from some other planet.

riff 1 -- Met with a huge applause and bigger awkwardness for all who claim to be fans but are really first timers trying to gauge what song and what lines ... but yet they sang along.

riff 33 -- The mind wanders again, this is the first time Parikrama are playing an entire set, which is all original, why would they not Play Highway to Hell and intersperse it with Black Crowes

riff 123 -- This is not bad, though a little loud , it's new stuff and after many years of getting their share of criticism for being imitations. India's version of the uber cool are getting some new grooves and busting out the intonations like never before.

riff 144 --It's just a deep, dirty riff man, very nice.

riff 1000 – Towards the end Chintan makes his bass sound like a pop and the crescendo builds and comes crashing down to earth. The difference I realise, when I heard riff 1000 for the first time, it was well something like machine churning out its final burger and this time around it was like a juicy Mcchicken which needs to be enjoyed. Parikrama had justified the cult status that they had enjoyed, they had turned a corner and so had . Finally it made sense,it would be cool to head to north campus for that gig.
