Fashion gazing

Last day of Wills India Fashion Week. Many would give an arm and a leg to watch the show...especially the Finale, which showcased collections by Anamika Khanna and Ashish Soni.

But I was waiting for it all to end as I had soaked enough of style over the course of the week. Having said that - for the future episodes I know I will be going though the footage of each show at least thrice!

Rewind to day one. Fashion Week opened with Vikram Phadnis’s show, which began with a dance by Shiamak Davar's troupe. His show had a message "Save the world from Global Warming”.

Between the shows my immediate observation was that the guests attending fashion week have become more fashion-focussed.

The crowd consisted mainly of fashion-related people as opposed to a season ago when Delhi's fashionistas appeared in their newly tailored wardrobe for the week...What better place to get noticed than Grand Hyatt's lobby!

Things were different at Pragati Maidan; Gate Number One, Hall Number 9 - the venue for fashion week. There was a sea change with Ayesha Thapar appearing in a brown T-shirt saying ‘FASHION IS NOT A LUXURY'. This week - it was all about 'Not trying too hard!'

There was also some serious business going on with buyers diligently sifting through the collections at the designer stalls and placing orders for the coming season.

As the week progressed, the one show that gave me goose bumps and a certain sense of national pride was Tarun Tahiliani. The music was supported by some Qawals, who at some point were so disinterested that they were messaging on the phone!

A little disturbing for the focussed first row seaters...The first few structured garments in the collection were in bright red and beautiful for the winter.

There was also a dancer performing to a Bollywood number as an interlude. It was an interesting mix of theatre and fashion. Honestly I loved it.

Then I saw Shobhna and Vijay Arora's show that had many people from the fashion fraternity like Ashish Soni, Sunil Sethi, Rina Dhaka and some celebrities like Atul Wasan walk down the ramp with their children.

I know we are Indians and the reason soap operas like Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi are hit shows is the fact that we LOVE drama.
