Bollywood and Switzerland share a fifty yearlong partnership that has seen the Swiss Alps as a backdrop in several Indian movies. The high peaked mountains, green hilly pastures and the electric blue sky has become a treat for the eye through Indian cinema. Moving across the iconic destinations that have appeared in Indian movies, traveller Meiyang Chang takes you to all the Bollywood landmarks that have been etched in the minds of many Indians for generations.

The Alpine nation has so much to offer to please a layman's eye and when Yash Chopra said, 'It's so peaceful, so romantic and so beautiful'; he surely knew what he was talking about. Every place you visit in Switzerland is prettier than the one you visited before and it's sure to leave you awestruck at the sheer beauty and excellence of this country.

So we have curated a perfect list for the Bollywood maniac in you through these top 6 filmy adventures!

1. Hang Gliding in Interlaken
Gliding like a bird in one of the most pristine travel locations in the world, this tandem flight will make you feel like a bumblebee lost in space. This super-fast flying experience over the Jungfrau region is nothing short of thrilling as you will get to view the stunning lakes and magnificent Alps of this region. Interlaken is definitely the best place to try this sport and after all the filminess, I think Chang needed this little bit of adventure to make it all come alive.
2. Early Beck Confectionary
Every sweet romance has to feature a little bit of chocolate sweetness and Chang's second best Bollywood moment was visiting the Early Beck Shop. This delightful chocolate store was featured in Bachna Ae Haseeno as well as DDLJ. Apart from the Bollywood movies that were shot in this very confectionery shop, Early Beck has an array of chocolates to offer, which you can pack and take back to your hotel room to enjoy a cozy evening while watching the iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

3. Yash Chopra's statue in Interlaken
To honour the king of romance, Yash Chopra, stands a bronze statue in the Kurssaal garden in the city centre of Interlaken. Thanks to this Indian filmmaker featuring Switzerland as a backdrop in most of his movies, he boosted the popularity of the Alpine country among many Indian tourists and they have recognized greatness. After getting the honourary title of 'Ambassador of Interlaken' in 2011, the five-star Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa also named a suite after Yash Chopra where visitors can have a romantic stay. And of course our movie maniac had to strike a pose with the man who inspired him to get on to this filmy trail in the romantic land of Switzerland.

4. The Spectacular Glacier 3000
Iconic locations mean iconic movies, and the iconic Chang went high up to Glacier 3000, which was used as a backdrop for the song Aahista Aahista from the movie Bachna Ae Haseeno.  Ranbir Kapoor and Minissha Lamba were riding the Alpine coaster and went dog sledging which was exactly what Chang did!

Once you get to Col Du Pillon you can take a cable cart up to glacier 3000 and experience the magical snow, which has seen Bollywood romance first hand.

5. St. Mauritius church in Saanen
A major chunk of the romance between Shahrukh Khan and Kajol unfolds in the tiny villages of the Gstaad-Saanen region. The narrow steeple of St. Mauritius in Saanen is where Raj and Simran prayed together and Simran's wish came true! Though the interior of the church was shot in the St. Grat Church in the village of Montbovon, this 13th century church is where this romantic couple embarked on their significant journey.

6. Reliving the iconic DDLJ train sequence
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) has probably defined romance for a lot of Indians and if you're a Bollywood buff who's planning a trip to Switzerland, you'll definitely not miss out on the most iconic locations from the movie.

Reliving the train sequence from DDLJ was on top of Chang's list and this journey started from the train station at Saanen, which is where Shahrukh infamously made Kajol miss her train. Meiyang Chang tried to recreate the magic to satiate his romantic side and experience the country where 'Raj' and 'Simran' fell in love, which inspired the way he fell in love with Switzerland.
