About the show :
Dog is man's best friend. But thus far there has been no television show in India dedicated to pets.

Heavy Petting has changed that. On this weekly show, dogs, cats, fish, birds, rabbits, snakes, all creatures big and small, find their way into our hearts and homes.

Heavy Petting, celebrates pets through features, news, biographies, blogs, and humorous moments.

Hosted by actress and animal lover Seema Rahmani, this first of its kind show, invites people to share stories about their adored pets.

There is also a vet segment that answers pet-related queries and a celebrity pet segment that features celebs and their beloved furry friends.

Answer : ·   A well balanced nutritionally complete diet like pedigree confers some protection against the effects of heat stress.
·   Despite reduced intakes there may be increased energy expenditure in an effort to lower the body temperature for example during periods of increased panting in dogs. Energy requirement increases with increase in ambient temperature. This means they may need to eat more during hot summer
·   Feed during cooler part of the day, if possible OR increase frequency of feeding --- increase number of meals to accommodate requirements per day. Make sure that you feed total recommended quantity of pedigree for your pet.
·   Weekly monitoring of body weight and body condition help to increase or decrease the pedigree quantity to fed.
·   Remember to give them plenty of water so they don't become dehydrated in the warm weather.
·   Keep their bowls full of fresh, clean water, and if you're taking a trip in the car, take a large bottle of water and a bowl with you.
·   It's extremely dangerous to leave a pet alone in a vehicle/room/outdoors in the sun – even with a window open – as an overheated car/room can have fatal consequences.
·   Your pets can only cool down by panting so make sure they have access to shade, proper shelter and water when outside.
·   Avoid exercising your pet in the midday heat and stick to early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler.
·   Bald areas like the nose and ears can be susceptible to sunburn – white and pale coloured animals, thin haired and recently clipped dogs are at a higher risk. Ask your vet about applying sunscreens to these areas.
·   It's important your pets get their annual vaccinations and regular worm treatment during summer
·   You should check for fleas and ticks regularly too, as they are more prevalent in warm weather. Your vet can give you advice about treatments.
