On a desultory Thursday, did a bit of 'pet browsing', nudged by The Boss and got some heartening bytes. As always in life, there's good news and bad news.
First the sad news. The world's oldest dog “Chanel of Manhattan” passed away on August 28 at the age of 21. Now that's 147-years-old in doggie years! The playful dachshund belonged to American couple Denice and Karl Shaughnessy.
Chanel celebrated her last birthday in May at a dog hotel and spa in New York. And it was here that Guinness World Records officials presented the centenarian pooch with a certificate of the world's oldest dog.
The world’s tallest dog has also passed away. Gibson, a great dane died from bone cancer on August 7. He was just seven. The lovable giant has been on The Oprah Winfrey Show and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has also danced with Paris Hilton!
But what Gibson’s owner Sandy Hall is most proud of, is his work as a Therapy Dog, Wheel Chair Assistance and Special Needs.
Gibson has spoken with Cesar Millan, the famous dog whisperer and co-authored his very own book Gibson Speaks. My condolences to the families.
The good news: People do care! I came by a unique memorial with the sweetest message...
“To all the canines who gave their noses and hearts to soothe the wound of a nation. Words cannot express enough gratitude maybe tail wags can...”
That dedication was for the canine causalities of 911 in NYC, and September 11, gone by was the 8th anniversary.
Now for a break from the panic of Swine flu, hog flu, pig flu. So what do you say to a porker in a costume? After Babe, that darling movie, I must confess, I quite fancy pigs! The city of Malolos in Philippines, seems to share my high regard for swine!
On September 12, they hosted a first of its kind fancy dress competition for pigs. The idea, say the organisers, was to turn pigs into stars and celebrities! Hear, hear and Oink-oink to that!
For cat lovers, I've got a poem though the author's unknown.
I'm Only A Cat
I'm only a cat,
and I stay in my place...
Up there on your chair,
on your bed or your face!
I'm only a cat,
and I don't finick much...
I'm happy with cream
and anchovies and such!
I'm only a cat,
and we'll get along fine...
As long as you know
I'm not yours... you're all mine!
